KEY QUALIFICATIONS:
Mahendra S Jayalath is a senior green building and energy efficiency consultant attached to SSI. He has over ten years of project management experience, working on a wide range of tasks related to green building, energy efficiency and energy efficiency project financing. He has extensive developing country experience, primarily in South and South East Asia and Southern Africa.
Mahendra is also a LEED accredited green building professional from the United States Green Building Council and he has been responsible for over 10 large LEED certified Green building in South Asia. These include the first PLATINUM rated industry in the world, two vocational training schools in Sri Lanka, and the Eco centre developed for Ceylon Knit Trend (Pvt) Ltd.
Mahendra is also spearheading an initiative in Sri Lanka to develop its own green rating system, closely linked to the Energy Efficiency Building Code.
With over twenty years of experience in many energy efficiency related tasks including EE program design, implementation and evaluation, commercial energy efficiency delivery including to Energy Efficient lighting, ESCO activity development and ESCO project financing, EE program monitoring and evaluation, load research, standard & labeling of end-use appliances and development & implementation of building codes.
Mahendra was responsible for the development of the Sustainable Guarantee facility for Sri Lanka under the South Asia Regional Initiative for Energy Cooperation which addressed key issues and challengesfor commercial energy efficiency activity development and included financial modeling, technical evaluations, and risk management issues.

- Bachelors (Hon) degree in Electrical Engineering, North Staffordshire University, UK
- Energy Auditing Certification, Australia.
- Senior Executive Development Certificate Diploma, NIBM, Sri Lanka.
- Telecommunications and Data Technique Diploma, ABB, Baden, Switzerland.
- A certified chartered engineer of the Engineering Council of the UK.
- A certified chartered engineer of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka.
