Dr Richard Veerapen

MBBS, FRCSEd (Surgical Neurology), LL.B (Hons), LL.M (Medical Law), MA in Dispute Resolution (U of Victoria)

Dr. Veerapen is a legally qualified UK-trained Neurosurgeon who practised in several Malaysian hospitals before moving to Canada to pursue further studies and research in healthcare conflict management. His areas of interest include the design of conflict management processes for healthcare institutions. He was one of the co-founders of Medical Defence Malaysia Bhd., Malaysia’s first indigenous medical defence organization.

He is currently the Health Director of Tsawout First Nation, Saanichton, BC, and holds teaching positions as the tutor for Health Care Law HADM400, Centre for State and Legal Studies, Athabasca University, Alberta, Canada. He also a tutor for the Doctor, Patient and Society Courses (DPAS), UBC-Island Medical Program, University of Victoria, BC, Canada.
